I’m not a poet
I do not claim to be
Though sometimes I’ll slap down some words
For all the world to see
I’m not a poet
Though I might want to be
By churning out such thoughts I have
That so few people see
I’m not a poet
As you can plainly see
I can’t paint words that dance and sing
I’m just a plodder me
I’m not a poet
I do not think things through
It’s rare that I will come up with
A thought that is brand new
I’m not a poet
I really am not - no
When thoughts pop in from time to time
I will give it a go
I’m not a poet
Though sometimes I will try
Not like a real poet might
Who’ll make their verses fly
I’m not a poet
Don’t have a mind that free
I don’t call myself a poet
I don’t write poetry
I’m not a poet
Suggest I should do more
You’ll ignore the words I show you
Implying that they bore
I’m not a poet
Simply an old hack me
I wish I had a mind so good
I could a poet be
I’m not a poet
This is not poetry
If I called myself a poet
A bad one I would be
I’m not a poet
I just can’t claim to be
Some days I will bash out some words
For all the world to see
No I’m not a poet
Don’t try to label me
Please do not call me a poet
I am no poet – see…!
