SOME
DAY, ALL OF THESE MEMORIES WILL BE LOST
Some day, all of these memories will be lost -
Not the big ones, perhaps, but all of the little
moments
That add up to a life – The Disney Robin
Hood T-Shirt -
Its head appeared in that impossibly
cheerful school photograph;
The huge metal climbing frame in the Big Hall
which shrank with time;
Sorting out the pond in the infants
playground, and how small
Their rain shelter seemed after being in
the Junior Playground one;
Short trousers; Eleventh birthday bumps
ending in a broken
Collar bone; The fear of ending up in prickly
bush; Painted pitches;
Foot and mouth at the farm; Being asked if
I was Welsh;
Shiny silver discs in the mud – the pig
farm now all houses;
Small tragedies and minor embarrassments which
still resurface
Some day, all of these memories will be lost -
Not the big ones, perhaps, but all of the little
moments
That add up to a life
Some day, all of these memories will be lost -
Not the big ones, perhaps, but all of the little
moments
That add up to a life – Helping Arnold to
lag the pipes in an
Impossibly dark attic; The smell of the Sunday
School kitchen;
Running along that corridor behind the stage;
The coffee bar the
Adults all built with its grey/black tiles;
Painting a banner there;
Clutching my “Action Man” Doctor in
Yugoslavia; Asking what
“The Dambusters” were; Older, with big
hair, wearing that Sergio
Tacchini shirt I won from the Daily Mail
for a drawing of John McEnroe;
Auntie Nancy’s sparkling floor; A Carp
Pond; The fascination of a Lava Lamp:
That impressive hallway; Aeroplanes hanging
on strings; Uncle John’s
Model Railway room; Holiday Star Trek,
Flash Gordon, Robinson Crusoe
Some day, all of these memories will be lost -
Not the big ones, perhaps, but all of the little
moments
That add up to a life
