COFFEE GROUNDS

COFFEE GROUNDS

I watched a documentary
About tall buildings in big breezes
And how to stop them shaking
They engineered some clever wheezes

The science is really clever
In case you’ve never seen it
Have a great big tank of water
In the roof space is where it sits

If you make two sticks start whipping
But put a cup on top of one
The difference is quite amazing
One stays when the other has gone

Extrapolate this much bigger
The advantages are quite clear
If there’s a reservoir in the attic
A huge collapse you’ll never fear

So when those gales start blowing
The motion is damped right down
Which stops your great big building
Collapsing down onto the town

But this has set me thinking
Of another use for such damping
Because HMG wants the earth to move
With the drilling they’re rubber stamping

Now we’re all worried about fracking
All that shaking of the ground
It seems they think we’ll all be fine
If there are enough coffee cups around
