VERY SHORT STORY COMPETITION FAILURE (2)

Another failed entry to the "Flash Fiction" thing. The rules are very simple; The "story" has to be less than 150 words and feature a particular prompt word (which is the one in brackets).

THE PRICE OF NOT PAYING ATTENTION (note)

It was really hard. Trying to form all of those lines and curves without anyone else noticing.

The shapes had suddenly seemed so difficult to make. Nothing like the way they'd been when Mrs Davies did them earlier. Trying to form them on a scrap of green paper towel held against the back of the desk, using a blunt blue crayon held in the wrong hand, had been nearly impossible.

All of the time she'd been pretending to pay attention to whatever it was that Mrs Davies was telling them, and that had nearly got her into terrible trouble.

She'd passed the note to Tracy, who'd passed it on again. She'd followed it as it went along the row until, finally, Simon held it in his hand.

Then he turned around, poked out his tongue at her, scrunched her declaration up, and threw it on the floor.

She was devastated.
