GRANDAD'S SLIDES (21) - WOODEN BOX 2 - SS CANBERRA 1965 (PHOTOBLOG)

SLIDES 0232-0254

This set are from Gibraltar - this time I'm sure of it - presumably the gateway to the Med, etc., etc.

Another fascinating lost world as the small boat takes the passengers from the big boat and puts them ashore.

The view of the ship from the small boat is one of my favourites from the collection so far, although all these "maritime" pictures of busy harbours and moored ships fascinate me given that it all seems to be ferries and container ships now, and the ports never seem to be as busy as once they were.

As ever, I remain delighted by the old cars that can be seen, ones which might draw an admiring crowd drawn to a "classic" now, but were just ordinary, run-of-the-mill, "common as muck" models back then.

Also, I think you've got to admire a country, territory (or whatever) which would erect a plaque to mark the spot where some people stood and looked at something.

Lost worlds indeed...!

  1. Quieter and more sedate times. A British bobby idles away his time, cars without a hint of plastic trim or bumper beep and crunch gears in the streets, and a caravan parking site is called a caravan parking site.
