…and so we emerge, blinking like troglodytes, into the sunlight, with the vast bulk of the manual labour now done, and with merely the odd disappointment, and the loss of a couple of mugs, a butter knife, a dish drainer, and a cereal bowl to worry about, along with the mysteriously broken seal on my "new" jar of coffee, and the prospect of a little retouching, filling, and shelf construction to gnaw away at my weekends for the foreseeable future.
I'm also poorer to the tune of most - if not all - of my inheritance from my mother's estate, but feel sure that she would have felt pleased that we did something "vaguely worthwhile" with it.
There remains, of course, much to do, not least the return of all the stuff to it's new rightful places, and the lugging of what feels in my mind to be several thousand boxes from the storage unit, and the general sorting out of the clutter which still infests much of our tiny little abode.
I conservatively estimate that, with the wind in the right direction, good luck, and enough weekends being free from commitment, we might be done with it all by October.
This may persist in keeping me away from the keyboard for a while yet, but, well, you never know, I may just find the desire to "tappity-tap" out a few words from time-to-time as this year evaporates, so, as ever, "stay tuned"…!
What a transformation. You'll love cooking in there.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, we're still rather intimidated by it - and a lot of the "cooking stuff" is still in storage… but one day, oh yes, one day...
DeleteI think it looks great! So jealous of your range cooker. Sadly, I couldn't fit one in my kitchen. We shall have to pop round for a meal sometime when you are settled!

I think that it's more "range-style" but it is nice… (Still haven't used it yet, though… the pans are still in storage)
DeleteS o, how is the new 'lifestyle' going?
ReplyDeleteStill unpacking boxes at the weekend, to be honest... Still not fired up the beast yet, either... Time, it seems, keeps on escaping me...
DeleteGod, a new cooker and not used! I would be all over it like a rash.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, we're still struggling with transporting and sorting all of the kitchen clobber that went into storage... the pans are proving to be particularly elusive...
ReplyDeleteSolution - buy new pans.
ReplyDeleteAny update yet?
ReplyDeleteI'm having quite a lot of fun over in TwitWorld, but longer form writing seems impossible at the moment...
DeleteHow about posting some of your more insightful tweets?
ReplyDeleteI think most of the Twitterati following me might openly mock any suggestion that I might have "insight" into anything.
