NORMALLY
Normally...
At this time of year
I would traipse far and wide
To see the curlew I hear
With limited time
In this climate of fear
I must be contented
Simply to hear
As they warble and cry
In fields far away
I must not do what I would
On an early spring day

PRISONS
In our lives we all build prisons
To entangle us and snare
The house
The job
The wedding band
Kids for which we have to care
Then life puts up some new ones
Tells us to stay right there
The house
Becomes
Our total world
Because of a health scare
The life we know is changing
There’s nowhere else to be
The house
The lawn
The family
A spring trap you can’t flee
Although you know you can’t escape
That place that you call home
Your life
Your home
Your family
At least you’re not alone
Those prisons we make ourselves
Now shut into by the state
Have life
And hope
And family
Let’s try to enjoy our fate
Real prisons are far worse you know
Few outside will feel so trapped
You’re free
To be
With those you love
In a velvet castle you mapped
In our lives we all build prisons
To make something we can share
Your home
Your folks
Are your cellmates
You need to be right there

SAFETY POEM 220320
SAFETY POEM 220320
Such a lovely
Such a lovely
day outside
After that winter
made us run & hide
You may be tempted
to go out there
Where invisible foes
lurk please beware
So if you want
to show you care
Sit down in a chair
& stay right there
Or God knows what harm
You may quietly do
To someone who
you never knewMAWH
B*G M*C
B*G M*C
I've never desired a B*g M*c
Not once in twenty years
I'd rather be eating plated food
When munching with my peers
Though others think differently
Saying whether you like it or not
You have to if you've got kids
Who's the boss amongst that lot
Some may have another view
Craving a peaceful life
Seek small nuggets of family joy
Amongst life’s many strifes
Let’s go to McD*n*lds
Amongst the ballyhoo
What else are B*g M*c eaters
Going to find to do
Sunday’s queues were endless
It’s replaced the family roast
Those in need of one hot meal
Will possibly miss it most
So now the doors are closing
The fryers and grills gone cold
It’s one more effort to save the lives
Of those who won’t be told

LAST SPLASH
LAST SPLASH
B*gger...
B*gger...
The last splash of milk
Squeezed from the carton
Means I will have to go
Out shopping again
Which was seldom a joy
A means to an end
Now turned into a dread
Just to get bread(@MAW_H, 210320)
STAY AT HOME
STAY AT HOME
"Stay at home!"
Newspapers shout
But we didn't read it
Because we're not going out
"Stay at home!"
The headlines scream
We're all still in bed
Hanging on to our dreams
"Stay at home!"
Filthy rags shout
Please buy a newspaper
If you happen to go out

Tempted outdoors First time in a some days By the already fading Colourful light Didn't go far Not one soul did I see Whilst admiring the splendour Of Nature's art

RIPPING UP TREES
RIPPING UP TREES
Not exactly
Ripping up trees is it?
That may be so
But great oaks as you know
If you'll let them
From tiny acorns grow
Who'd want to be
Ripping up trees anyway
Few phrases more
Show us the difference
Between the needs
Of business over nature

WE, THE REDUNDANT HAIKU POEM
WE, THE REDUNDANT
We, the redundant
We, the redundant
Who made a choice not to claim
Wonder about work
It’s not a great time
To build a new working life
Amidst this carnage
Yet keep plodding on
Building our portfolios
Inside our cocoons
(Written on the occasion of it being four months since the axe fell on what i used to think of as my career)
BROCCOLI RESPONSE
SHORT POEM IN RESPONSE TO:
“You. Are. Bonkers. To give broccoli the shun
When it comes to health and flavour it's deffo the best one”

You’re right, absolutely
I really cannot disagree
So why did people in our shop
Clear shelves of all but broccoli
Is it a vegetable too far
Does it bring bad memories
As every other box was emptied
Except for lonely broccoli
I couldn’t find one lemon
Not an onion could I see
Yet they left so much broccoli
I thought “That’s all the more for me!”
Why did swarms of shoppers
Desperate for some veg to buy
Ignore this brassical delight
Learn to love your broccoli@MAW_H (200320)
